Origins of Urdu

...it can only be imagined how intense would have been the debate when it was suggested for the first time in the years gone by that Urdu basically was an offshoot of Punjabi and it owed its origins to the language spoken by the people spread across the province. The reaction was passionate, to put it mildly.
